DescriptionGenesis Raylkon draws on the artist’s interest in freight trains as symbolic elemental steel giants, creatures of power and strength like the mythical thunderbird. He has created a jagged, expressive thunderbird out of redwood painted with automotive paint, echoing the shapes and forms of his graffiti art seen on over 5,000 freight trains throughout North America. By transferring this symbolic figure into a three-dimensional form, Kwest brings this mythic figure’s power into reality, both physically and through its identification with trains, a crucial element of the urban landscape that his art aims to explore.
