Artist RegionOntario
DescriptionSquadron consists of a series of individually-cast bronze sparrows, suspended as if in flight. Each sparrow has white crosshairs painted on a different body part, which the artist intended as commentary on the marginalization of LGBTQ+ individuals (particularly relating to the passing of Proposition 8 in California in 2008, which outlawed same-sex marriage). The material was chosen for its strength, so that the weapons aimed at the birds would have no effect, and the colour, International Red, was chosen to represent the borderlessness of the struggles of LGBTQ+ individuals across cultures and countries.
