DescriptionBoth A Tiled Inquirer (2012) and an ideal plane (2014) by artist Jacob Whibley use paper and related materials to evoke life cycles and the passage of time. By building collages with ephemera and vintage papers on grounds of wood or books the artist invites us to consider the possibilities of one medium (wood) as it shifts between various forms to become a record keeper of language and stories (books) and experiences (train tickets, correspondence and the daily grind of office work). As a result, Whibley captures the grandeur of life’s big moments alongside the unremarkable minutiae of the everyday.
