Jeff Winch, Burned Bedroom, 2001
Burned Bedroom
2001
Artist RegionOntario
DescriptionSimilar to the artist's other work Snow Room, the abandoned building depicted in this piece is a burned-out room, the images of which have been cut into rectangular pieces and reassembled to create a disjointed effect that reflects the destruction of the subject matter. The photomontage technique used in this work is called panography or “joiners”, an artistic technique popularized by English artist David Hockney.

These composite works explore the fragmented stories of abandoned urban landscapes. Created by Jeff Winch, a faculty member of the Media Studies Department, these pieces evoke the layered histories of sites after they have been voided of human intervention.
