DescriptionThis work forms part of Koop’s Green Zone installation, which draws imagery from news broadcasts of the war in Iraq, distilling these arresting visuals into a myriad of individual pieces that simplify the images into their most basic forms. Infrared - Green Zone simplifies the imagery of warfare into vibrant, violent planes of red, the luminous lights in the centre of the composition challenging the viewer like a pair of omniscient eyes. The work and its accompanying installation challenge the viewer to contemplate the ways in which media has desensitized people to images of violence, draining them of emotional or moral impact through endless replication and repetition.
