Artist RegionNorth
The late Jutai Toonoo is widely regarded as one of the most unique artists to emerge from the artistically rich community of Cape Dorset, Nunavut. An accomplished sculptor and jewellery maker, Toonoo later turned to drawing as his primary medium. His works on paper and in stone often evoke the complexity of the human condition, standing as figurative representations of the depth of the psychological or spiritual experience of his subjects, including himself. Toonoo's work can be seen in the collections of the Art Gallery of Ontario, the Canadian Department of Foreign Affairs, the National Gallery of Canada, and the TD Bank Financial Art Group.
