Rajni Perera's work explores issues of hybridity, sacrilege, irreverence, ethnography, gender, sexuality, popular culture, deities, monsters and dream worlds. She challenges notions of gender, ethnic identity, and the sacred/profane dichotomy by drawing inspiration and imagery from a variety of sources including South Asian miniature paintings & religious icons, sci-fi and fantasy, and Japanese anime. A graduate of OCAD, she is based in Toronto, ON, and her work has been featured in solo and group shows in Canada, the United States, Germany, and Sri Lanka. She has received numerous awards for her work, including the Medal for Drawing and Painting and the Nora E. Vaughan Award from OCAD (2011), and the Toronto Arts Council Emerging Artist Grant (2014).
