Nuit Blanche 2024 - Humber IP Call

Nuit Blanche, Toronto’s all-night contemporary art event, will take place on October 5th, 2024, in neighbourhoods all across the city. This year the City of Toronto invites artists and curators to present works that explore the multifaceted ways we experience and understand distance, while also reimagining how we can bridge distance through art. This is an opportunity for recalibration and to reconnect with our city, our world and each other, in public space.

As a hub for Nuit Blanche Toronto, Humber College Lakeshore Campus in Etobicoke is now accepting Independent Project applications. These are self-produced projects that can be installed in traditional and non-traditional spaces, such as parks, window vitrines, courtyards, parking lots, laneways, and more. Applicants from any artistic discipline are eligible, but proposals should have a strong visual component and be rooted in contemporary art practices. Proposals should also address and integrate Nuit Blanche Toronto’s 2024 curatorial theme, Bridging Distance, in their project and must be located on Humber College's Lakeshore Campus.

The 2024 curatorial theme Bridging Distance, invites artists and curators to present works that explore the multifaceted ways we experience and understand distance, while also reimagining how we can bridge distance through art. This is an opportunity for recalibration and to reconnect with our city, our world and each other, in public space. Each piece will pose a question: How does the impact of distance manifest in our bodies, the city, and beyond? How might art physicalize and magnify different distances? How can art bring us closer to the thoughts, feelings and experiences of others outside of our immediate geographic, social and political realms? How might art play with distance to provide different perspectives and invite reconnection?

The Independent Project program is open to all Humber College students, faculty, alumni, and staff, as well as Toronto-based professional artists, collectives, and arts organizations. All applications will be reviewed by a Selection Committee comprised of Humber Galleries, Humber College, and City of Toronto staff.
