Canada has been at the forefront of a global effort to reduce maternal and infant mortality, and improve the health of mothers and children in the world’s poorest countries. Humber has partnered with the World Food Programme (WFP) to produce this interactive travelling photo exhibition that will launch at Humber during the 25th International Development Week (IDW) and will travel to other Canadian universities.
Malnutrition affects millions of people around the world – nearly half of all deaths among children under the age of 5 are due to malnutrition. Canada and WFP are working towards a world with Zero Hunger and helping WFP to maximize the nutritional impact of its food assistance. Their support is enabling WFP to improve its programming and nutrition initiatives around the world.
WFP is the world's largest humanitarian agency fighting hunger worldwide, delivering food assistance in emergencies and working with communities to improve nutrition and build resilience. Each year, WFP assists some 80 million people in around 75 countries.
Humber will be hosting a variety of panels, workshops and events during the week of Feb 2nd to 6th to celebrate International Development Week 2015. This year all the events will focus around maternal, newborn and child health and nutrition to support the commitments made by the Canadian government towards these international health initiatives.
