Black And Indigenous Solidarity: Visions Of Abundance by Chief Lady Bird
Location: Humber Polytechnic North Campus - LRC 2nd Floor
About the work
This piece was inspired by the continuous, ongoing, and cyclical community work initiated by Black and Indigenous folks. It is a visual love letter to our matriarchs and queer fam who envision radical futures, which are inclusive and safe for racialized and gender diverse people. Specifically, I chose not to include any urbanized landscapes within the composition because the futures we envision and work towards are focussed on Land Back and ensuring all our relations have access to their homelands and teachings. I have embedded the piece with Woodland Style imagery and my own use of this visual language to include concepts of reciprocity, food sovereignty, futurisms, land stewardship, activism and leadership.
