Nuit Blanche, Toronto’s free all-night celebration of contemporary art, returns on October 4, 2025, transforming public spaces into extraordinary landscapes.
As a hub for Nuit Blanche Toronto, Humber Polytechnic Lakeshore Campus in Etobicoke is now accepting Independent Project applications. These are self-produced projects that can be installed in traditional and non-traditional spaces, such as parks, window vitrines, courtyards, parking lots, laneways, and more. Applicants from any artistic discipline are eligible, but proposals should have a strong visual component and be rooted in contemporary art practices. Proposals should also address and integrate Nuit Blanche Toronto’s 2025 curatorial theme, Translating the City, in their project and must be located on Humber Polytechnic's Lakeshore Campus.
The 2025 theme, Translating the City, invites artists, curators and audiences to consider how cities can be reimagined, communicated and felt through art. The event will feature three unique exhibitions, projects presented by cultural institutions and a multitude of independent works by local artists.
Landscapes, rhythms, identities and narratives of cities can be translated by artist, curators and audiences in unique ways. How can the sounds of the city be made visual? What is the city trying to communicate? How can we map stories untold?
With approximately 200 languages spoken across Toronto, nearly half of all residents have a first language other than English and French according to the latest census.
In 2025, the 19th edition of Nuit Blanche will feature large-scale works that incorporate different languages, beyond those that are written and spoken.
The event will feature three unique exhibitions, projects presented by cultural institutions and a multitude of independent works by local artists.
The Independent Project program is open to all Toronto-based professional artists, collectives, and arts organizations as well as Humber Polytechnic students, faculty, alumni, and staff. All applications will be reviewed by a Selection Committee comprised of Humber Galleries, Humber Polytechnic, and City of Toronto staff.
